Movie Review: 'Knives Out' Is A Thrilling Romp of Murder and Greed

I am amazed at how the new actress Ana de Armas holds her ground in the movie Knives Out with an ensemble cast that is A-list through and through!

I missed the theatrical showing of this great movie yet enjoyed watching it in a form where I can re-watch scenes.

It is a whodunit that would make Agatha Christie proud and the director Rian Johnson's (he directed Looper as well!!) to make each actor shine without muddling the plot is an achievement by itself.

For a movie fan like me, it was great to see Christopher Plummer, who at the young age of 90 years old, can still command such screen presence - his character being the anchor of the wealth that everyone else in this story is salivating at.

I have many favorite actors in this movie - Jamie Lee Curtis - wonderful to see her in a comedy once again (she was just hilarious in A Fish Called Wanda) and Don Johnson of Miami Vice, a guy I haven't seen act in a long time. He can still act, although now, his daughter (Fifty Shades actress) is now more well-known than him to the younger generation.

Toni Collette and Michael Shannon wear their characters on their sleeves and add more intrigue to the mix.

Finally, there's Daniel Craig speaking in a Kentucky drawl, so different from his James Bond persona - and his character here is the Hercule Poirot in the cast.

The story is one of the more intriguing plot lines I have seen in a movie with an original story for some time now. I should know because I read a lot of whodunit books and this one has twists and turns every step of the way!

Rian Johnson, who also wrote the script, announces his arrival to Hollywood's heavy hitters because it takes a genius of a screenwriter to write a compact ensemble story that is both entertaining and socially relevant.
