TONY'S MOVIE REVIEW: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Sends Another FU to the Super Rich
There seems to be a thread among Hollywood movies this year where the super rich are sent big FUs! From The White Lotus to Triangle of Sadness to The Menu and now in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the central theme of these movies is the roasting of the super rich which eventually lead to the demise of their characters - which is exactly what happens in this second Knives Out mystery.
In this latest Knives out story, a group of close friends are invited to the island by now billionaire character played by Edward Norton. Each friend has a favor to ask from the billionaire and are willing to keep secrets from him. I will not divulge much of the story anymore but that there is a murder that happens and another attempted murder.
What you the viewer can do is guess who the murderer is. I guessed wrong lol. I never was good at these whodunits.
But the movie's screenwriter, also the director, Rian Johnson, pieces together a script that is not only fresh and current, but has many unique gizmos and gadgets to bring this second installment a notch higher than the first.
However, the motives of these murders remain the same. To protect their wealth and put the poor victims in their proper place.
Watch Daniel Craig become Hercule Poirot again, although I missed his character's name lol. However, it is Janelle Monae who shines in the movie as she has the meatiest role of them all. The whole ensemble is acts like first rate A-list actors that they are. I am surprised the wrestler is here and thankfully, he is given the smallest role.
I strongly recommend you watch this movie. I find it more interesting and with more to lose among the main suspects. I love how it is current and relevant to modern times and keeps us apace with what the current technology can offer us ordinary mortals.
I hope there is a third movie. Daniel Craig has survived the James Bond curse lol
