MOVIE REVIEW: Peninsula

I have always been fascinated as to how writers and directors have been tweaking the zombie apocalypse template as every year, more than a dozen movies and TV shows keep coming out from different countries like South Korea, Canada, and Germany - all having their own take of a very familiar storyline.

I never get tired of it though.  The zombie apocalypse genre is up there for me in the first choice of movie and TV show that I want to watch.  I don't know why I am so fascinated with it knowing fully well I will never be able to survive that scenario because I don't have the survival skills of the characters in those stories.

This brings us to South Korea's latest offering of this genre - from the same production team that brough to us the very entertaining Train to Busan.

Peninsula stands on its own though and it doesn't have any link to that big box office behemoth.  But the template is still the same - and this time, with a group of interesting characters - more women and girls and more vicious male characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie - but not as much as Train to Busan.  My wants in a zombie movie apocalypse is very simple - make life harder for the humans - and give me a lot of wonderfully choreographed chase scenes.

This movie delivers on both counts.  Although the special effects look more like CGI though.  Otherwise, it uses some of the moral compass that can be found in the Busan movie.

Even during the end of the world, the corrupt are still as dirty as ever - which makes for an exciting watch.

If the zombie apocalypse is your cup of tea - then go and watch this movie.  There are many fast-paced actions scenes that will surely bring you to the edge of your seats.

MOVIE REVIEW: Blood Red Sky

Warning: Spoiler Alert! Read at your own risk.

Blood Red Sky is another permutation of the vampire genre and this time the vampires (or rather vampire) is in the sky.  I will not dwell so much on the story but to give you an idea - it's like Die Hard - but on an airplane.

The bad guys are terrorists and they do not have honorable plans for the poor passengers of this flight.  However, they aren't able to carry out their plans to fruition because the 'Liam Neeson' hero of this movie - is a vampire - and a mother!

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! If you are into this genre, I strongly suggest you watch it as the director Peter Thorwarth puts in just the right elements you want in a fast-paced, interesting, and heart-stopping action movie.

The bad guys are really freaking bad and the protagonist vampire is not without her weaknesses as well, giving the movie, just the right balance of suspense and cliffhanger action scenes.

The boy plays a pivotal role in this movie and he's so brave here.  There are several other interesting characters who help the female protagonist - and each does their part in thwarting evil from winning.

Well, prepare your homemade popcorn and curl up in your Lazy Boy and watch this movie tonight - under total darkness!  Make sure your Bose stereos are also in full blast!

Enjoy!

Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever: My Top Five Favorite Tracks

Billie Eilish has already released five songs from her second album - my future, Your Power, Therefore I Am, Lost Cause, and NDA.  However, none of those songs have appealed to me.

One good thing though is that there are five other songs in her album which I find unique and interesting and my even chart in my own International Top 10.

Anyhow, here are my five top picks from her Happier Than Ever album -

#1 Oxytocin - Hands down the most saleable and marketable song in her album.  Great tune and very Eilish in arrangement and presentation.

#2 Overheated - Another great song I love from this album.  The arrangement is uniquely hers. The hypnotic beat is a bomb!

#3 GOLDWING - My third pick has an angelic start and then transforms into another vintage Eilish track with a great bass hook.

#4 Male Fantasy - The most meaningful song for me in the album as Eilish talks about the male gaze.

#5 Happier Than Ever - The title track starts with a folksy beat and ends with a bang!

Oxytocin: This Should be the Lead Single from Billie Eilish's 'Happier Than Ever' Album

Oxytocin is the most radio-friendly track from Billie Eilish's latest album, Happier Than Ever.  This album is her follow-up to her smash and Grammy-winning album 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go".

Actually, Billie has already released five songs from this album but personally, they don't rank in the top 5 of my favorite songs from the album.

The six songs that I like from the album, aside from this one is Overheated (#2), Male Fantasy (#3), Everybody Dies (#4), Happier than Ever (#5), and Goldwing (#6).

It is a solid album, a less weird but equally lush follow-up to her debut album.
